You want to do some promotion via a press release. Before you do, ask yourself these questions:
1. Is it new? (this is the most important element in making the NEWs)
2. Is it of interest to your target audience?
3. Does it provide you with an opportunity to communicate a key message for your business?
All too often, there is pressure on marketing departments to make announcements about things that are neither new nor of interest to a broker or consumer audience.
However, at the same time, many potential news stories get lost because people don’t spot the opportunity.
So, always take a newshound’s approach to developments in your business – any newsworthy press release provides an opportunity to communicate a key message, if only within the quote.
But also be disciplined in your assessment of what is newsworthy. Is it really new? And is it really of interest?
Like everything is marketing - just ask that simple question: WHY?
